How to play Black Gold – The basics

Black Gold is an oil rush-themed strategy game for 2 to 4 players. The goal of the game is to be the first player to score 35 points by producing, gathering, and selling oil.

Setup

The game board is placed in the center of the playing area. Players take turns placing their workers on the board, starting with the player who has the green worker.

Each player starts with 5 worker pieces, 1 drilling rig, and 1 tanker.

The Objective

Your objective is to be the first one to score 35 points. Points are scored by producing, gathering, and selling oil.

Producing Oil To produce oil, you need a drilling rig and an oil well. Place your drilling rig on an empty field on the game board, then place an oil well next to it. Each drilling rig can only hold one oil well. If you want to produce more than one barrel of oil per turn, you need additional drilling rigs. You can place up to two additional drilling rigs on your turn, as long as they are adjacent to an existing drilling rig.

Once you have a drilling rig and an oil well in place, you can start producing oil. Simply take a barrel of oil from your production area (next to your drilling rig) and place it on your tanker. You can only have three barrels of oil on your tanker at any time. When your tanker is full, you must sell your oil immediately! To sell your oil, simply place your tanker next to an opponents' refinery (see below). They will then give you money based on how much oil is in your tanker (1-3 coins per barrel).

Gathering Oil Gatherin g oil is done by taking a barrel of oil from an opponents' refinery (or storage tanks – see below) and placing it back in your production area . You can gather as much or as little oil as you like each turn , but you can only gather from one opponent per turn .

Selling Oil You can sell either one or three barrels ofoil at a time . Placin g Workers Workers can be plac ed anyw here on the game board that there is not already a worker present – except for on top of a mountain, which costs 2 coins to cross. If there are no more spaces available on the game board, players cannot place any more workers.
